How to Specify a Wool Cape or Fur-Trim Coat Before Sampling
A production-ready cape or fur-trim coat brief should identify the garment structure, verified fibre composition, fur species and placement, lining, closure, finished measurements, color approval method, quantity, branding and care-label requirements. A reference photo helps define the silhouette, but it does not replace a measurable specification or material confirmation.
Is it a cape, wrap cape or belted coat?
Start with the arm and side construction. A cape body usually drapes from the shoulder and uses a sleeve opening or wide integrated sleeve. A belted coat has a conventional sleeve seam and a more defined front overlap. State the structure in the tech pack before discussing colors.
Which material details must be verified?
Record the exact fibre percentages for the body material, the formal fur species for every trim position, whether the shown color is natural or processed, and the lining composition. Do not use a photograph or a color name as material proof.
Which finished-garment measurements are required?
- Finished bust or flat chest width and hem
- Back length and front length where the hem is asymmetric
- Shoulder-to-sleeve drop for capes, or shoulder and sleeve length for coats
- Sleeve opening or cuff circumference
- Collar width, collar depth and neckline opening
- Front overlap, belt position and pocket placement
How do closure and belt choices affect fit?
A belt may shape the silhouette without being the only closure. Check the physical sample for snaps, hooks or buttons, then show their positions in the tech pack. The front overlap and closure position should be measured while the garment is laid flat.
What should be approved for color, lining and care labels?
Approve physical material swatches or a finished sample, document the lining and trim combination, and prepare a care label based on verified materials. Avoid absolute color-matching, warmth, durability or care claims that have not been tested.
What should a buyer send before sampling?
Send a reference image or tech pack, target structure, verified materials, finished measurements, closure, color direction, quantity, labels, packaging, destination and timing request. The supplier can then confirm what remains open before a quotation or sample schedule is issued.
